Finding a great printed holiday card can be a challenge. Every year I swear I’m going to make a family Christmas card, but I never do. Maybe it’s because I’m a busy mom of three who homeschools while trying to juggle a budding writing career? Maybe I can never find the right designs and colors that express who we are as a family? Or maybe I just forget about it until everyone else is sending out their holiday cards and I realize that I waited too long?

I’m pretty sure it could be the latter.

This year, I’ve decided to finally take the plunge and find great Christmas cards to print and send to our family and friends around the world.

Staying connected to loved ones takes on a whole new meaning this holiday season. After months of lockdowns, quarantine and travel restrictions, many of us haven’t had quality time with family and friends. And even as restrictions lessened, there are those of us with high-risk family members we still can’t be around.

It’s been almost a year since I’ve seen one of my grandmothers.

A custom holiday card is a great way to show loved ones you care and to uplift spirits during these trying times. That’s why I’m excited to partner with the online stationery company, Basic Invite, and share their large variety of printable holiday cards.

Holiday Party Invites

2020 is the year no one saw coming. Birthdays, holidays, weddings and special events have been canceled or just don’t look how we expected. And with cases of COVID-19 surging throughout the United States, this holiday season will be drastically different than others. There won’t be any large, in-person holiday parties with co-workers, family and friends, but this doesn’t mean the holiday spirit is dead. Have virtual parties but send out actual invites! Search for the perfect Christmas party invite template to create an invitation for your company, family or friendship virtual holiday party! Something as simple as sending invite in the mail for a virtual holiday party can help create a sense of normalcy in these uncertain times.

Hanukkah Cards

Hanukkah means “dedication” in Hebrew and is the Jewish festival of lights. The eight-day celebration commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabees revolted against the Seleucid Empire—their Syrian/Greek oppressors. Around 200 B.C., Judea came under the rule of Antiochus III, the king of Syria. He allowed the Jews who were living there to continue practicing their religion. His son, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, was less tolerant and outlawed Judaism; he also demanded that they worship Greek gods.

In 168 B.C., Epiphanes sent soldiers into Jerusalem and murdered thousands of people. They also desecrated the holy temple by sacrificing pigs in it and erecting an altar to Zeus.

The Maccabees weren’t haven’t it.

Jews around the world commemorate Hanukkah by lighting a candle each night on the Menorah. The most common and traditional belief of why candles are lit for eight days is that after the battle, there was only enough oil to burn for one day, but a miracle took place and the oil lasted for eight.

Other Jewish scholars believe the eight days could be symbolic of the Maccabees needing eight days to purify themselves after battle and being in contact with dead bodies. The purification process consisted of sprinkling themselves with clean water mixed with the ashes of an “unblemished” red heifer. While others say it may have taken eight days to obtain and press olives into oil. (source: My Jewish Learning)

Hanukkah begins on the 25th of Kislev on the Hebrew calendar, so this year, it will take place from December 10-December 18. So there’s still plenty of time to order your holiday cards! Basic Invite has a variety of Hanukkah templates in the traditional colors of dark blue, silver, gold and white, but they are easily customizable using the company’s numerous color choices.
